There are two versions of the G Suite Drive Desktop App available for download and installation. At Bates, you will want to use Drive File Stream (Business) and not the Backup and Sync (Personal) version.
To Access the G Suite Drive File Stream Desktop App Download:
- On your computer, open your Bates Gmail account from within a web browser and login
- On the topright, click on the G Suite Application Launcher box and click on the Drive icon
- From the G Suite Drive window, click on the Settings gear
- From the drop-down menu, click on Download Drive File Stream for (Windows/Mac)
- You may be redirected to a Google Drive Help web page. Click on the appropriate button to downloadG Suite Drive File Stream
- Once you have downloaded the G Suite Drive File Stream Desktop App
- Launch the installer and follow the step-by-step instructions to perform the installation. Once you have completed the installation, you will receive a prompt to login.
- Once G Suite Drive File Stream has been installed, you will find a Drive File Stream icon on your computer’s Desktop and/or in your computer’s Notification area.
- On a Windows computer, you will find the Notification area at the bottom right of your Desktop
- On a Mac, you will find the Notification area at the top right of the Desktop
Note: The G Suite Drive File Stream Desktop App does not work like the previous G Suite Drive Desktop App. When you access a file from your G Suite Drive File Stream folder, you will be directly accessing the file from the Google Cloud and not a local copy that will then be synchronized with your Google Cloud account. If you need to access your files from your Bates G Suite Drive account when you do not have access to the Internet, you will need to select those files/folders before going offline and set them to be available to you in an offline mode. To save a file offline, make sure you have an app that can open your file. Click the Drive File Stream Menu. Click Open Google Drive folder. Right-click the file or folder you want to save offline. Click Drive File Stream Available offline. Once your file is saved offline, you'll see a. Uninstall Drive File Stream, as described above. Make sure to complete step 3, to clear cached files. Redeploy or reinstall Drive File Stream. Windows Step 1: Sign out and quit Drive File Stream. In your task bar, open Drive File Stream. Click More and then Sign out. Return to Drive File Stream.
Download Google Drive File Stream for Mac or Windows. You must be logged into your Google account to see this page. Right-click on a file or folder and select Available Offline under the Drive File Stream menu. Please note that doing so will store a copy on your computer, using up more of your hard drive.

To download Drive File Stream:
- Sign-in to Google Drive web interface at drive.pepperdine.edu.
- Click the Gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen
- Select 'Get Drive for Desktop'
- Once downloaded, run the app and follow the on-screen instructions.
- When prompted, sign-in to your University Google account.
- Drive File Stream is now installed and running.

If you are also using Backup and Sync, work with the Tech Central to ensure that both tools are running in parallel properly.
Access Google Drive files using Drive File Stream
You can find Drive File Stream Menu in a different place, depending on what computer you use:
- Windows: At the bottom right of your screen.
- Mac: At the top right of your screen.Windows
Find & keep files and folders offline
To save a file offline, make sure you have an app that can open your file.
- Click the Drive File Stream Menu .
- Click Open Google Drive folder .
- Right-click the file or folder you want to save offline.
- Click Drive File Stream Available offline.
- Once your file is saved offline, you'll see a green check mark next to it.
